What a fantastic Hockey Journey finishing with gold medals and Bromley Borough being crowned 2017 Champions for the London Youth Games.
The girls hockey squad made up of Year 8 & 9 girls travelled to Crystal Palace on 09.07.17 for the London Youth Games Hockey finals after success at the Redbridge qualifiers held back in June.
The finals were made up of 8 London Boroughs who were all looking to take home the hockey trophy back to their respective Borough!
On a very hot morning Bromley played some excellent hockey in the group stage securing them 2nd place in their group which guaranteed them a semi-final place where they were to meet Redbridge. This was a very tough group but the girls battled hard and got their reward.
With the girls Improving all of the time Bromley started the semi-finals very strong going 3-0 up but after a late challenge from Redbridge the girls held onto their lead finishing 3-2 taking them into the final where they would play Richmond.
After a short welcome break the whistle blew for the start of the final. Again Bromley started very strong and took an early 2-0 lead after playing some great hockey. The girls continued to press Richmond and scored again only for the goal to be disallowed as the ball was deemed to be hit outside the D before hitting the backboard. Richmond battled hard to get back into the game but Bromley defended very well and continued to attack until the final whistle blew. What an achievement!
Bromley were the new 2017 London Borough Hockey Champions!!!
A fantastic display of hockey during our 12 week Hockey Journey.
The Bromley squad has been very professional in their attitude towards training and worked very hard indeed. All of the girls have displayed a great team spirit and they have all worked together as team which has been great to see. It has been hard work but everyone has had a lot of fun along the way and the girls have all enjoyed playing their hockey and representing their Borough.
Commitment, hard work, determination, skill, team work and fun has all played a major part in achieving top spot and the girls lifting the trophy.
A brilliant effort girls. You should all be very proud of your achievement.
We have had great support all of the way from the parents, friends and family getting their daughters to training and match days. Their support has been fantastic and has definitely helped the squad succeed. A massive thanks to you all.
I would also like to thank my fellow coaches Andy Willis and Andrew Pearce. Their help, experience and support throughout has been superb and they also deserve a massive thanks!
Well done again girls and keep enjoying your Hockey.
