BREAKING NEWS! BromBeck boys at the Futures Cup

BromBeck are delighted to announce that three of our U16 boys, Josh Tikare, Dan Hamilton and Joe Cotton have been selected for the Saxons Tigers at this years U15 Futures Cup.

The Futures Cup competition runs over four days and sees the six squads (four English regions and Scotland and Wales) battle it out to be crowned winners. The National Age Group Coaches attend this tournament to select for the England U16 squad.

This is a fantastic achievement, well done to the boys and everyone at the club wishes you all the best of luck for the competition!

BromBeck boys win London Youth Games Hockey Competition

Sunday 7th July saw several boys from BromBeck juniors compete in the London Youth Games Hockey Competition hosted at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. The LYGs competition is entered by all the boroughs in London and is a very tough competition to win - so this is an outstanding achievement and the boys should be really proud of their victory.

The boys from the U14s and U12 age groups played 3 group games in the first session, opening with a match against Hillingdon with Noah Goddard opening the scoring in his usual assured way. This was followed up with another quick goal to get the boys off to a fast start. Although Hillingdon came back into the match with a goal of their own the boys managed to see the game through to a win. With the next game against Harrow - the squad was reduced by one when Jamie Stewart was struck by a stick towards the end of the game and needed 2 steri-strips, some glue and a trip to the local medi-centre. Jamie was having a storming game at the time having nearly setup a goal from left defender - and we were really sorry to see him go! The boys managed to win the game 2-0 with Callum and Matteo getting into the action and making sure we came out with the win.

The final game in the pool was against a good Redbridge side. The team were now really hitting their stride and delivered a dominant win, with good performances from Bertie Morrison and George Catton putting Redbridge to the sword 3-0. A special mention to Jamie Hamilton for his scouting mission and coaching advice to the team!

This qualified the boys for the semi final where we were came up against Haringey. Once again some great performances meant that the team came through by 3 goals to 1 with another dominant performance.

The expectation was that we would play the favourites - Wandsworth in the final - however they were knocked out in a semi final penalty shoot out 13-12 to leave us playing Hillingdon once more.

The final was a tense affair with a great goal from Femi Owalde-Coombes setting us up, only for Hillingdon to break away near the end, but a fine one on one save from Jamie Freeman, who was outstanding all day in goal, allowing the boys to seal the game for the Bromley borough. As expected the boys were delighted with the medals, trophy and training tops that were awarded to the winners.

A fantastic day, and special mention to the spine of the team - Noah De Vaux, Harrison King Enda Connelly and Fionn Sparrow who were all outstanding and really showed their great skills and reading of the game.

A special mention to Andre Thomas for his coaching support and Sarah Goddard for organising the team and the training sessions. Roll on next year!

How our sessions will work

Our first few sessions will be about getting back to grips with hockey for those just coming back, covering some of the basics in fun engaging exercises and playing games to finish the sessions off. We then hope to add to the hockey sessions, with enough commitment to the idea, a social gathering in the clubhouse at Foxgrove Road, as we believe that for those coming back to the sport that the social aspect of meeting and spending time with new and old friends will help you feel welcomed back into the sport.

Hope to see you all there on the 10th May, Please make sure you sign up so we know you are coming and that you can be in line for the rewards.

Regards
